Masterflex Group Medical Solutions - Case Study on Catheter Solutions on the Gradical Podcast

Focus on Reliable Catheter Solutions On the Gradical Podcast, Lucas R. Pianegonda (Gradical) and Damien Carr (Eyedea MedTech Education) discuss a highly interesting case study on the future of sustainable catheter solutions. The episode centers on the question of how medical tubing and catheters can be developed today to better balance safety, cost-effectiveness, and environmental considerations. As a technology leader, solution provider, and trusted partner, this popular episode was even sponsored by Novoplast Schlauchtechnik. Efficiency, Safety, and New Materials Damien Carr, also known as “The Catheter Guy,” describes traditional catheter manufacturing as a highly complex, manual process. The case study, however, highlights the potential of continuous production processes, dynamic co-extrusion, and material-optimized designs. Particularly exciting are tubing solutions made from the highly interesting UHMWPE for medical technology . Ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene, or UHMWPE for short, is an exciting plastic tubing material with versatile applications within medical technology. Medical Brands from Germany—Masterflex Group as an Innovation Partner for Medtech and Biopharmaceuticals Damien Carr, an internationally recognized expert in catheter design, made a strong recommendation for the Masterflex Group as a potential implementation partner in Europe in a LinkedIn comment: “A big thank you to the Masterflex Group! If there was ever a company in Europe that could turn my words into action, you’ve just found them!” From the perspective of Masterflex Group Medical Brands, Novoplast Schlauchtechnik and Fleima-Plastic underscore just how crucial high-performance materials and reliable manufacturing processes have become for tubing, tubing sets, and injection-molded solutions for medical catheters. Medical Technology Novoplast Schlauchtechnik UHMWPE Tubing Synergies from a Single Source—APT as a Specialist in Medtec Fluorothermoplasts With APT from Düsseldorf, the Masterflex Group also has a proven specialist in reliable tubing solutions as well as heat-shrink tubing made of PTFE and fluorinated thermoplastics. For the podcast hosts, one thing is clear: there is no direct 1:1 substitute for fluoropolymers. At the same time, the Masterflex Group is continuously researching and investing in new materials and high-performance substances to develop innovative and sustainable solutions. Examples of this include tubing solutions from Novoplast Schlauchtechnik made of UHMWPE, as well as biodegradable and Cradle-to-Cradle-compliant tubing systems in line with a consistent circular approach. “Sustainability, performance, and safety must not be pitted against one another in medical technology—modern material concepts must meet all three requirements,” says Andreas Hankel of the Masterflex Group. The medical technology industry places high demands on materials, processes, and regulatory compliance. To help companies meet these challenges, the Masterflex Group has developed a comprehensive collection of white papers.

The focus is on several white papers that cover various key topics along the value chain. These include, among other things, the selection of suitable plastics for medical applications. The white papers explain the requirements that so-called “medical-grade” materials must meet and the standards and testing procedures—such as those related to biocompatibility and regulatory approvals—that play a role. Practical Overview Another focus is on regulatory frameworks. The white papers provide a practical overview of relevant requirements, such as the European Medical Device Regulation (MDR), and demonstrate how companies can incorporate these requirements into product development and approval processes. This is supplemented by guidance on documentation, risk management, and quality assurance. Technological Issues In addition, the content also addresses technological issues. Topics such as the development and optimization of tubing systems, material properties, manufacturing processes, and customized solutions are examined from a practical perspective. The goal is to provide concrete guidance for implementation in everyday industrial practice. Masterflex Group Medical Solutions – Solution and Know-How Partner With this pooled knowledge, the Masterflex Group positions itself as a solutions and expertise partner for medical technology. The white papers serve not only as theoretical foundations but, above all, as decision-making aids for specific projects—from material selection to market approval. The white paper series offers a concise, practical overview of key challenges in medical technology. It provides companies with valuable support to streamline development processes, confidently navigate regulatory hurdles, and make well-informed technical decisions. The shareholders' meeting approved the proposal put forward by the Executive Board and the Supervisory Board and resolved to pay a dividend of €0.30 per share for the 2025 fiscal year (previous year: €0.27).

In total, 2,885,500.20 euros (previous year: 2,596,950.18 euros) will be distributed from Masterflex SE’s retained earnings. The remaining amount of €28,884,973.27 will be carried forward to new account. The Annual General Meeting expressed its confidence in the members of the Executive Board and the Supervisory Board of Masterflex SE for the 2025 fiscal year and approved all items on the agenda by a large majority. In his speech, CEO Dr. Andreas Bastin highlighted in particular the strategic progress made as part of the HERO@ZERO future strategy. A key milestone in this regard is the largest engineering and framework contract in the history of the Masterflex Group to date, which was concluded last year. The series ramp-up is planned for the end of 2026, with full ramp-up scheduled for 2027. With this project, the company expects recurring annual revenues in the mid-single-digit millions and, at the same time, strengthens its technological position in the strategic target industry groups “Life” and “Tech.” In addition, Dr. Bastin highlighted the expansion of cleanroom capacities in the Medical Technology division. By expanding its controlled cleanroom space by approximately 20 percent by the end of 2026, Masterflex is responding to the continued high demand from the medical and laboratory technology sectors and creating additional conditions for further growth in this attractive future market. Another strategic focus was on international expansion in the aviation business. With the laying of the cornerstone for the new plant in Morocco, the Masterflex Group has laid the foundation for the further expansion of its activities in the aviation industry. Through its subsidiary Matzen & Timm, a modern production facility for highly specialized hose and connection systems is being built in the Midparc Free Trade Zone near Casablanca. Dr. Andreas Bastin, CEO of the Masterflex Group: “2025 was a year of significant strategic progress for the Masterflex Group. Despite economic headwinds in some customer industries, we achieved new sales and earnings records while simultaneously laying the groundwork for further profitable growth. With the largest order in the company’s history, the expansion of our cleanroom capacities, and the groundbreaking of our new plant in Morocco, we are strategically strengthening our position in attractive future markets. Our future strategy, HERO@ZERO, is opening up increasingly concrete economic prospects. We are making targeted investments in future markets, technological innovations, and sustainable solutions, thereby strengthening our position as a leading international specialist in sophisticated hose and connection systems.” Voter turnout was 66.25%. Please understand that, due to these unpredictable market dynamics, we reserve the right to adjust our pricing and freight conditions should the burdens reach an extraordinary level. Risk management: We are in close contact with our logistics partners and suppliers in order to identify potential bottlenecks as early as possible and activate alternative routes or sources of supply. In the event of circumstances beyond our control ( force majeure ), delays cannot be completely ruled out despite the utmost care. We therefore recommend planning your requirements well in advance. Novoplast Schlauchtechnik launches take-back service within Germany

With a new take-back service for sample deliveries, Novoplast Schlauchtechnik is specifically strengthening the concept of the circular economy in industrial hose development. Disposing of hoses - free take-back service Novoplast Schlauchtechnik, a valuable part of the Masterflex Group, is adding a new, sustainability-oriented component to its range of engineering services from this year. As part of a new project, Novoplast is now offering its customers the free return of hose samples within Germany. Circular economy for industry and medical technology Circular economy is the future. The German group of companies recognized this early on and is transforming its business as part of the corporate strategy Hero@Zero , alongside other core pillars, in the direction of circular economy. "For us, the circular economy is no longer just a promise for the future, but an active, strategic commitment. Last year, we presented the first cradle-to-cradle-capable hose innovations at the Masterflex Group. Today, we act as an active development partner and are already implementing C2C-capable solutions in the area of spiral and smooth hoses. Our aim is to consistently think circularly about industrial value creation," emphasizes Masterflex SE CEO Dr. Andreas Bastin. Hoses, engineering expertise and easy take-back The aim of the new take-back service is not to dispose of sample deliveries unused at the end of the test phase, but to return them in a controlled manner and reintroduce them into the material cycle. "The delivery of a product doesn't have to be the end of the story. In engineering in particular, we see a special responsibility to consider the entire life cycle from development to return," explains Niels Mitzlaff, Head of Development (R&D) at Novoplast Schlauchtechnik. Each sample is provided with a label including a QR code , which can be used to trigger the return easily and digitally . With the return service Novoplast Schlauchtechnik is creating a practical solution for customers who want to integrate sustainability into their development processes without any additional organizational effort. At the same time, the company is laying the foundations for further, recyclable service concepts.
This award recognizes our commitment, our innovative strength and our leading role on a global level. It is a special honor and impressively confirms our position as a leader in our market segment. Under the scientific direction of the University of St. Gallen, the so-called "World Market Leader Index", which lists all world market leaders from German-speaking countries, is compiled every year on the basis of company data. In order to make it onto the list of world market leaders, companies must fulfill a number of strict criteria: A global market leader must be number one or two worldwide in terms of turnover in at least one relevant market segment At least 50 percent of the annual turnover - lower limit: 50 million euros - must be generated abroad and on three continents. The owners must be based at least in part in Germany. The Masterflex Group is once again one of these "World Market Leader Champions". The complete list of all world market leaders is published every year in the business magazine "WirtschaftsWoche". To the ranking

The SZ Institute analyzed over 5,000 companies and selected the 101 best performers. The award-winning family businesses all have strong balance sheets, solid financial figures and stable economic development. The award as one of the strongest family businesses in 2025 confirms our financial strength, reliability and future viability - and makes us proud to be one of the leading family businesses in Germany. Family businesses shape the country more than many people realize. A study by the Institute for SME Research states that over 90 percent of all German companies are family-run. They also provide around 60 percent of jobs subject to social security contributions and train more than half of all apprentices. Without them, Germany as a business location would hardly be conceivable. Click here for the ranking
